Previous VEAC Investigations

Since VEAC was established in 2001, ten investigations have been completed and one investigation was withdrawn.

All published reports for previous investigations are available here. The formal government response is also provided for most VEAC investigations.

In 2016, the VEAC Act was amended to provide for VEAC to prepare assessments and advice, in addition to being requested to carry out investigations. Since then, four assessments have been completed. All published reports for previous assessments are available here

Statewide Assessment of Public Land (VEAC, 2017)

In September 2014, the then Minister for Environment and Climate Change requested that the Victorian Environmental Assessment Council (VEAC) carry out an investigation into public land in Victoria.

Angahook-Otway Investigation (VEAC, 2004)

This report contains the full text of the Victorian Environmental Assessment Council's final recommendations for the Angahook - Otway Investigation. These provide an ongoing framework for use of public land in the study area. The electronic files are available by chapter to ensure a reasonable download speed. Hard copies can be obtained by contacting VEAC. Note that these recommendations replace those for parts of LCC's Corangamite and Melbourne District 1 Review Areas.

Goolengook Forest Investigation (VEAC, 2006)

Notification of withdrawal of request to investigate the Goolengook Forest On 21 December 2006, VEAC received advice from the Minister for Water, Environment and Climate Change of the withdrawal of the request to investigate the Goolengook Forest. The withdrawal was signed by the Minister on 15 December 2006 and is pursuant to section 15(6)(b) of the Victorian Environmental Assessment Council Act 2001.

Investigation into Additional Prospecting Areas in Parks (VEAC, 2014)

Requested in October 2012 by the Minister for Environment and Climate Change, VEAC's investigation into additional prospecting areas in parks made recommendations on which areas (in general terms) of the following parks could be made available for recreational prospecting: Alpine, Baw Baw, Croajingolong, Errinundra, Lake Eildon, Lind, Mitchell River and Yarra Ranges national parks and Lerderderg State Park.

Investigation into Historic Places (VEAC, 2016)

The Final Report on VEAC's Historic Places Investigation was submitted to the Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change on 31 August 2016.

Marine Investigation (VEAC, 2014)

The Final Report on VEAC's Marine Investigation was submitted to the Minister for Environment and Climate Change on 30 April 2014 and publicly released on Wednesday 7 May 2014.

Metropolitan Melbourne Investigation (VEAC, 2011)

In July 2008 the Council was requested to carry out an investigation of Crown land and public authority land in 29 municipalities in metropolitan Melbourne.

Remnant Native Vegetation Investigation (VEAC, 2011)

In July 2008 the Council was requested to carry out an investigation of remnant native vegetation on Crown land and public authority land outside of largely-intact landscapes across Victoria to identify opportunities for ecological linkages.

River Red Gum Forests Investigation (VEAC, 2008)

The River Red Gum Forests Investigation commenced in April 2005 and the final report was released in July 2008.  The final report contains complete details of the Investigation including all recommendations for public land use, details of public consultations, and implications of the recommendations.

Yellingbo Investigation (VEAC, 2013)

In August 2011 the State government requested VEAC to investigate the biodiversity and ecological values of public land within the Yellingbo investigation area, identify threats to these values and to make recommendations relating to management to conserve and enhance these values.
